Funeral services for Wayne Charles Bunting, age 71, of Cookeville [TN], formerly of Mason City, Iowa, will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church with Pastor Scott McKinney officiating.

Graveside service and interment with Military Honors will take place at a later date at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. The family will receive friends on Saturday 9:30 AM until service time at First Baptist Church, Cookeville, Tennessee.

Mr. Bunting passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018 at his home following a brief illness.

Wayne was born February 15, 1947 in Britt, Iowa to the late Raymond and Fern (Border) Bunting.

He graduated in 1965 from Mason City High School, Mason City , Iowa, and attended North Iowa Community College after serving his country in the United States Army from 1965 until 1968. He was stationed in Darmstrung, Germany and Khu Chi, Vietnam. Wayne held a life-long respect for those in the Armed Services, and felt honored to have served his country. Wayne began working on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, (which later merged with Union Pacific Railroad) upon his return home from the Army and served in various positions from operator to dispatcher to CAD Manager in his 38 years in the railroad industry until his retirement in 2007. Wayne was united in marriage to Denise Paullus on October 25, 1975 at the First Christian Church in Mason City, Iowa. Wayne was a loving husband and father; his life was devoted to his family. Through his quiet and gentle spirit and unselfish ways, he was an example of Christ's love, whom he accepted as His Lord and Savior in 1983. He loved cars and driving, and he and Denise took many trips in the States. He became a golfer after his retirement when he and Denise retired to Cookeville, TN.

He is survived by: his wife Denise; two sons, Jason Bunting of Enon Valley, Pennsylvania, Scott (Amy) Bunting of Byron Center, Michigan; a daughter, Lisa (Chuck) Prudhomme of Kalamazoo, Michigan; five grandchildren; two sisters, Helen (Jim) Lack, of Rudd, Iowa and Sharon (Alan) Anderson, of Mason City, Iowa.
