MASON CITY -- Frances L. "Fran" Bartling, 69, 210 Mars Hill Dr., Clear Lake, died Monday (Nov. 13, 2000) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa.

A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. The body is being cremated.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Iowa or Mercy Critical Care Unit in her name.

Fran was born Aug. 24, 1931, in Dinsdale, Iowa, the daughter of Gerriet and Elva Mae (Jorgenson) Bolt. They also lived in Denver, Garwin and Janesville, Iowa, where she attended school.

Fran married Harold Bartling Oct. 8, 1954, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They moved to Clear Lake in 1956 where Harold worked for his brother-in-law at Chaney Plumbing. They owned and operated the Melodee Bowling Lanes in Clear Lake from 1969-1977. She was an avid bowler, winning many awards. Fran loved to dance, play in mixed bowling leagues, listen to country western music, and being outdoors in the sunshine.

Besides being a great bowler, she was a good cook, loved kids and babysitting them and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Fran and Harold enjoyed going to the casinos. Fran was a long time member of the Mason City Women's Bowling Association.

Fran is survived by her husband, Harold Bartling, of Clear Lake; four sons, Kevin Bartling and his wife, Regina, of Iowa Falls, Ken Bartling and his wife, Denise, of Garner, Brian Bartling and his wife, Patrice, of Cedar Rapids, and Brad Bartling and his wife Renee, of Nora Springs; one sister, Shirley Moses and her husband, Roy, of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Jack Bolt and his wife, Bette, of Janesville, and Gerriet Bolt Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Holland; eight grandchildren, Steve, Jayna, Hayley, Justin, Jeremy, Jake, Katrina and Ryan; three great-grandchildren, Jessica, Austin and Luke; and special friends, Ron and Teri Gustin, of Clear Lake.

Fran was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marlys Rockwood and Bonnie Morgan.
