Funeral for Nurse Radford Set.
Leona (Merfeld) Radford, 46, for 17 years superintendent at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, and a native of Dougherty, died Tuesday of a cerebral hemmorrage suffered at the hospital.
She had lived in Des Moines since 1942, and made her home at 1172 5th Avenue. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's School of Nursing, Dubuque.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra, at home and Rosemarie Driscoll, Des Moines; two sisters, Clara Whilm, Sheffield, and Bertha Tienan, Garner; and six brothers, the Rev. Arthur Merfeld, Glen Ellyn Ill., Chaplain Vincent Merfeld, Lackland AFB, Texas; Louis and Albert Merfeld, Dougherty; Leo, a twin brother of Mrs Radford, Sacramento, Calif., and John Merfeld, Marble Rock.
Mrs Radford was a member of the Mercy Hospital ALumni Assn. and the American Nurses Assn.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Ambrose Cathedral, Des Moines, of which she was a member. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery at Dougherty.
The family will meet at St. Patrick's Church Dougherty, at 2 p.m. Thursday for graveside services. The Rev. Ronald Axen will officiate.
The Caldwell-Brian Funeral Home is in charge in Des Moines. The Colonial Funeral Home, Mason City, will be in charge at Dougherty.
