THORNTON -- Vickie Kathleen (Groh) Green, 52, of Salt Lake City, Utah, died Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Sacred Heart Church in Rockwell, with the Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City following services and luncheon. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf -Grarup Funeral Home in Thornton, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Vickie was born Oct. 2, 1948, to Victor and Mary Ellen (Plonsky) Groh of Thornton. She was raised in Thornton, attending Meservey-Thornton School and graduating from Newman High School in Mason City in1967.

Vickie was a child care technician at St. Vincent's Infant Hospital in Chicago, Ill. in 1968 through 1969. She also attended Hamilton Business School, NIACC and along with her former husband, Kim Green, served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era, receiving an honorable discharge in 1973.

Prior to her illness, Vickie was employed by the University of Utah with the Independent Study, Department of Continuing Education.

She was active in her church, an avid collector of bells, enjoyed spending time researching genealogy, and crocheting afghans for family, friends and children's hospitals.

After spending her last four months in Thornton, she will be missed by her sons, Chris Green, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Tom Green and his wife, Angelica, also of Salt Lake City, Utah; parents, Victor and Mary Ellen Groh, of Thornton; sisters, Kristie (Groh) Pope and her husband, Mel, of Madison, Wis., Polly (Groh) Nordman and husband, Bob, of St. Charles, Ill., Amy (Groh) Kuhlers and her husband, Kurt, of Thornton; and brothers, Barry Groh and his wife, Kim, of Thornton and Steve Solum and his wife, Nancy, of Franklinton, N.C.; in-laws, Mark and LaFern Green, of Salt Lake City, Utah; along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Randy Groh; and sister, Lisa (Groh) Buseman.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
