Friday, January 12, 2001MASON CITY -- Shirley M. Gerdes, 76, of 222 S. Pierce Ave., died Wednesday (Jan. 10, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services on Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City.
Shirley M. Gerdes was born July 20, 1924, in Mason City, the daughter of George and Anna (Tyson) Bryant. She attended Mason City schools. She worked for Swift during World War II. Following the war she worked for Como Photo and several restaurants in Mason City.
On Sept. 17, 1945, she was united in marriage to Ralph R. Gerdes.
She attended Trinity Lutheran Church and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by her caring friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
