MASON CITY -- Robert R. Garrard, 60, formerly of Mason City, passed away Wednesday April 22, 2015, at the VA Nebraska Health Care Center.

Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015, at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W., Mason City, with Pastor Keith Scott officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015, at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W., Mason City.

Memorials contributions can be directed to the Newman High School Band.

Robert "Bob" was born on May 21, 1954, in Paducah, Kentucky, son of William and Elizabeth (Maricle) Garrard, and was one of seven children. Bob graduated from Newman High School, Mason City, and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in music. Robert served in Korea as a trombonist in the U.S. Army band. Following his military service he taught instrumental music in various schools in Iowa and Nebraska. He owned and operated a painting business and also directed Big Band groups for area dances. He loved music, especially Big Band sounds, and had an extensive music collection.

Bob is survived by his son, Miles; daughter Megan and step-daughter Amanda (Justin) Dwine; sister, Jeannette (John) Ebeling; brother, William (Janis) Garrard; sister, Suellen (Bill) Ikenberry; sister, Davida (Harley) Lackore and brother, Donald (Lori) Garrard, and numerous family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joanne Gardner.
