March 14, 1996MASON CITY -- Florence E. Palmer, 92, of 222 S. Pierce Ave., died Tuesday (March 12, 1996) at the Americana Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Merlin Ackerson of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation will continue until time of services on Thursday.
The family suggests memorials to the Florence E. Palmer Memorial Fund.
Florence E. Palmer was born June 7, 1903, in Ventura, the daughter of Clarence W. and Nellie A. (Scherf) Palmer. Florence moved to Mason City in 1919 and graduated from Mason City High School, Mason City Junior College and Drake University. Florence taught school in Rockwell for eight years, and then in the Mason City Schools for many years. Florence was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church, where she also taught Sunday school. She also was a member of I.S.E.A., N.S.E.A., retired teachers association and served on the Mason City Education Board. She was also past Noble Grand of the Rockwell Queen Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include cousins, Patricia Scherf Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Larry Scherf and his wife, Caroline, of Clarinda, and many other cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Vern L. Palmer.
