MASON CITY -- Vera M. Osslund, 85, of 304 Third St. N.E., died Saturday (Aug. 14, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Arne Bergland officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. this evening at Major-Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

The family suggests memorials to the Vera M. Osslund Memorial Fund.

Vera was born June 2, 1914, in Portland, the daughter of Carl and Mabel (Nielson) Peterson. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1932. Vera married Leland Osslund on March 5, 1940, in Mason City. During their early years of marriage they lived in Minneapolis and Rochester, Minn., returning to Mason City in 1945. Vera enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and crocheting for her family. Her true joy in life was her daughter, granddaughters and great-grandchildren. In the last two years there were so many significant losses in her life, but she remained as strong and tough as possible. Vera had a way of making people laugh every single day without even trying. Though she will be greatly missed by her loved ones, we know in our hearts she is happy to be back home with her husband Lee who she missed dearly. Vera was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Chase of Mason City; grandchildren, Kim (Dennis) Kline of Mason City, Kellie Chase and fiance Dean Nelson of Mason City, Kristal Chase and fiance Kevin Fitzgerald of Mason City; great-grandchildren, Jason, Brandon and Kaitlyn Kline, Brooke Fuchs, and Kearin Chase; one sister, Phyllis Coyier and husband, Jim, of Albertville, Minn.; special niece, Lisa Wilson; and two special nephews, Sean and Tony Ouderkerk; and additional nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leland, two brothers, Carl L. and John, and three sisters, Arlene, Lois and Leona.
