MASON CITY -- Nora Jane Martinez, 91, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Friday (April 19, 2002) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Monday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City. Maj. Chuck Wright of the Salvation Army will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, prior to services.

On April 17, 1911, Nora was born to John and Florence (Kenyon) Wood in Mason City. In August of 1927, Nora was united in marriage to Rufus Martinez in Mason City.

During World War II, Nora worked at the Mason City Tent and Awning making Army tents. Then Nora worked at Ideal Laundry for many years. Nora enjoyed playing solitaire and staying home, raising her family and crocheting bed spreads, tablecloths and baby clothes. She took a special trip to California in the late 1950s. She was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Friends and family will miss Nora's great cooking.

Those thankful in sharing Nora's life include one daughter, Ruby Austin, of Mason City; two sons, Robert and John Martinez , both of Mason City; one granddaughter, Deanna Lynn Dutcher and her husband, Richard, of Huron, S.D.; one grandson, Charles H. Austin, of Tampa, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren, Brad, Deon, Mike and Charles Dutcher, Kimberly Jamison, Ranae Scarpatti and Lori Minert.

Nora is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Betty Trainer (sic, should be Treanor); one son, Richard F. Martinez; one sister, Hazel Wood, and one brother, John Wood.
