March 17, 2017Thomas “Tom” Orville Johnson, 50, of Charles City, IA died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. with a one hour prior visitation on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Bard from Hospice of North Iowa officiating. The family invites those in attendance to dress casually. A luncheon will follow at the Charles City Senior Center.
Tom was born on September 17, 1966 in Mason City, IA to Ronald and Vanetta (James) Johnson. He attended schools in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School. Tom studied criminal justice at Kaplan University and law enforcement at NIACC. He also had degrees in business, traveling and government. From February 9, 1987 to November 27, 1990, Tom served in the United States Navy and was proud to be aboard the USS Jason.
On October 17, 2009 he was united in marriage to Linda (Learn) Johnson. The couple was married at Kaplan University, which is where they met.
In his free time, Tom’s hobbies included: guns, hunting, and computer war games. He was a true history buff. Tom had a close relationship with his nephew, Ethan and enjoyed spending time with him. He also enjoyed being a godfather to Remington.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Linda Johnson of Charles City; father, Ronald Johnson Sr., brothers, Ronald (Renae) Johnson Jr. and James (Lisa Monsen) Johnson; nephews, Ethan Johnson, Josh Johnson, and Chris (Krysta Nygaard) Johnson; nieces, Heather (John) Alford and Trecia Meyst; mother-in-law, Kathy Learn; special sister, Ashley Quast and many aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vanetta Johnson; grandparents; uncle; brother-in-law, William Learn and father-in-law, John Learn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in care of funeral arrangements may be made to his wife, Linda Johnson at 1802 Rolfing Street, Charles City, IA 50616.
