July 07, 1996SWALEDALE -- Jewell Hoskins, 94, of Swaledale, died Friday (July 5, 1996) at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Daniel Munson of St. Paul, Minn., officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.today at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.
Jewell Hoskins was born on July 14, 1901, on the family farm south of Ventura, a daughter of Otto and Hannah (Spencely) Abrams. She received her education from the Swaledale consolidated school system, graduating with the class of 1920.
She was united in marriage to Milo Hoskins in March of 1924 and they made their home in Swaledale. She worked at Eddy's True Value Hardware in Swaledale as a bookkeeper for many years and later she worked as a cook in the Swaledale school until retiring. Jewell enjoyed reading and gardening in her spare time. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockwell and the Swaledale senior citizens group.
She is survived by her daughter, Marlys Bartusek, and her husband, Robert, of Nora Springs; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Pendzich of Ixonia, Wisc., and Arlene Noyes of Erskine, Minn.; and four brothers, Spence Abrams of Clear Lake, Donald Abrams of Northwood, Melvin Abrams of Mason City and Francis Abrams of Yakima, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and one sister.
