MASON CITY — Daryl Hiatt, 64, of Mason City, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Reverend Dan Gerrietts officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date [Elmsood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa].

Visitation will be held 3 until 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the family to be distributed to Youth Baseball, Trinity Lutheran Church, and Humane Society of North Iowa.

Daryl was born April 8, 1952, in Mason City, to Paul and Connie (Belleli) Hiatt. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1970. On Jan. 29, 1972, he married Sue (Hansen) Hiatt at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City, IA.

Daryl worked at Lehigh Cement Plant for 40 years where he was a member of the Boilermakers Union until he retired in 2013.

Daryl was a devout Christian and member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Daryl was most passionate about spending time with his wife, kids, grandchildren, family, and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed cruising Mason City on his bicycle in good company. He was known for his infectious smile and quick wit. Much of his time was dedicated to coaching and umpiring Little League baseball.

Daryl also loved spreading Christmas cheer by playing the role of Santa on Christmas Eve. He loved kids and kids loved him. His other interests and hobbies included playing guitar, watching Cops, tinkering in his garden, and decorating his yard with unique treasures.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Sue Hiatt; his children, Tony (Heather) Hiatt, of Le Claire, IA, Jake (Billie) Hiatt, of Mason City, and Amy (Shawn) Graven, of Mason City; grandchildren, Carly, Elise, and Colin Hiatt, William and Rowan Hiatt, Aubri and Zach Graven; siblings, Doug (Phyllis) Hiatt, of Owatonna, MN, Sherri (Dick) Powell, of Mason City; aunt, Frances Belleli, of Essex, England; brothers in-law, Steve (Tammy) Hansen, of Mankato, MN, Bill Hansen, of Urbandale, IA, Tom (Denise) Hansen, of Mason City; sister-in-law, Jean Arnold Idabel, of OK; several special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Ann; grandparents; mother- and father-in-law, Bob and Margie Hansen; and beloved dog, Mac.
