Dorothy E. Smidt July 21, 1928 - March 13, 2018

MASON CITY - Dorothy E. Smidt, 89, of Mason City, IA, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at her home. Private family services were held with interment at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Dorothy was born July 21, 1928, in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Walter and Elsie May (Cox) Meckel. On August 13, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ben Smidt in Rock Island, IL. Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family – especially her great grandchildren: Boedy, Greyson, Chloe, Ezra and Hazel. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading and baking. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Dorothy is survived by 3 grandchildren: Brad Broers and wife Chris, Dan Broers and special friend: April, and Brandon Broers and wife Amber; and 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1998; son: Benjamin Smidt; daughter: Julie Broers and husband Bardelt; a daughter in infancy: Helen Mae; and grandson: Derrick Broers.
