Lloyd Bernard McMurray April 24, 1922 - February 20, 2018
MASON CITY – Lloyd Bernard McMurray, 95, of Mason City, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
A service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2018 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street NE, Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
A visitation will be held 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street NE, Mason City. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family and a charity of their choice will be selected at a later date.
Bernard was born April 24, 1922 in Pukwana, SD, son of William J. and Anna C. (Fatka). He graduated from Mason City High School, class of 1940.
After high school he married Jean E. Miller on October 12, 1942 in Bethany, Missouri, and to this union four children were born. Jean passed in 1987, after her passing he later married Carol Bushong and she brought to this marriage her three children.
He worked as a self-employed farmer in Mason City area for seventy-five years. He was proud of farming with his two boys and grandson.
Bernard was a member of the Odd Fellows, Mason City.He will be known for his hard work and dedication to his farming. He enjoyed playing cards, horse shoeing, shuffle board and pool. Bernard looked forward to wintering in Florida, after the harvest was completed.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Carol McMurray, Mason City; four children, Judy Olinger, Mason City, Virginia (David) DeWitt, Mason City, John (Cathy) McMurray, Mason City and Charles (Beverly) McMurray, Mason City; two step children, Jim (Carol) Bushong, Indiana, and Mindy (John) Collazo, Florida; sister, Ruth “Susie” Rhodes, Fertile, along with numerous grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean E. McMurray; parents, William and Anna McMurray; three brothers, Wayne, Lester and James McMurray; grandson, Bernard A. DeWitt; step daughter, Lana Tumbleson.
