Jon was born on June 10, 1939, son of Ralph and Gertrude (Winchell) Peterson. He graduated from Mason City High School, Class of 1957, and later graduated from Mason City Junior College. Jon married JoAnne (Seger) on June 20, 1964, and they were blessed with two daughters. He worked for Interstate Power Company, later Alliant Energy, as the superintendent in charge of gas operations. Jon was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Jon’s biggest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. He loved to fish and loved to take anyone fishing, even two very reluctant daughters. Luckily, he had a grandson that loved to fish as much as he did, and these two became regular fishing buddies. He was very proud of his son-in-law’s accomplishments and he loved to watch his granddaughter play volleyball, basketball, and gymnastics. He made friends wherever he went and every one of them had a special space in Jon’s heart. The truest love of Jon’s life was his wife, JoAnne, and their marriage is an inspiration to all who have known them.

Jon was an active member at Epiphany Parish Holy Family. He was a member of Noon Kiwanis for many years and also served as president. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish Council and served as president. Jon also served on the YMCA board and was a past member of Knights of Columbus.

Jon is survived by his wife, JoAnne Peterson, Mason City; two daughters, Christine Peterson, Mason City, Julie (David) Burns, Woodbury, MN; grandchildren, Joseph and Maya Burns; brother, Robert (Jeannie) Peterson, St. Ansgar; sister, Pat (Scott) Lavold, Plymouth, MN; brother-in- law, Dick (Marvel) Seger, Northwood; three sisters-in-law, Mary (Chuck) Reckard, Arnolds Park, IA, Nancy (Bobby) Rummens, Rogersville, MO, Susan Behr, Mason City; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his special aunt, Dodie (Peterson) Schyberg, and brother-in-law, Chuck Behr.
