Ernest 'Ernie' Hudson August 18, 1924 - August 28, 2017

Ernest “Ernie” Hudson, 93, of Mason City, died Monday (August 28, 2017) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial service will be held 2pm on Friday (September 1, 2017) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, with Reverend Steve Hansen officiating.

Inurnment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Military honors will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5pm until 7pm on Thursday (August 31, 2017) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, and will continue one hour prior to service time at the chapel on Friday.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorials may be left in Ernie's name to the Humane Society of North Iowa, 2700 S Birch Dr, Mason City or the Mason City VFW Post 733, 1603 S Monroe Ave, Mason City.

Ernest M. Hudson was born on August 18, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of William E. and Adeline D. (Brown) Hudson. The family moved to Mason City when Ernie was ten years old. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1942 before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1943.

After being honorably discharged on January 17, 1946, Ernie married Dixie St. Peter on May 31. They were blessed with 67 years of marriage together and four children, Dennis, Penny, Candace and Kurt.

Ernie worked for the City of Mason City Water Department for 39 years before his retirement in 1987. He was a Lifetime Member of the V.F.W, serving on the Honor Guard for many years. He was also a Lifetime Member of the Marine Corps League.

As a couple, Ernie and Dixie loved dancing, golfing, and attending and hosting the neighborhood card club.

Those grateful in sharing his life are his children, Dennis (Vickie) Hudson, Winona, Minn., Penny (Steve) Loers, Clear Lake, Candace Putzstuck (John Fox), Forest City, and Kurt (Laurie) Hudson, Indianola; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Lee Knutson; a special friend, Shirley Hanson, and very good friends Michael and Deb Caulkins and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Ernie is preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Hudson, his parents, four brothers, two sisters, special sister Donna Knutson and his grandson, Michael Hudson and granddaughter Sally Gancors.

Rest in peace Ernie, You've earned it.
