Sara Diane Blakewell was born March 21, 1984, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Milton and Frances (Warren) Blakewell. She graduated from Mason City High School and went on to graduate from NIACC. Following NIACC Sara attended UNI, graduating with a BA. She was currently working on her masters through Morningside. Teaching became Sara’s passion and her students became her family.

On Aug. 2, 2008, Sara was united in marriage to Clayton Powell. To this union two boys were born.

Sara loved the outdoors, spending time camping in Rock Falls, tubing down the Shell Rock River, and sitting around the camp fire with friends and family. Sara enjoyed traveling and was privileged to see many places across the United States. She enjoyed the Civil War Reenactments and participating in the Great RAGBRAI. Sara was an avid collector of Bugs Bunny items and was known to have a very large collection. She was very thankful for the large playground her father built for her children in their backyard.
