HASSE, GIANNOUPOULIS, HASAPOPOULOS, ARGYROS, DESPENAS, SCHISEL, CHALLAS

George G. Hasse, 95, of Mason City, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday (July 16, 2014) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Tuesday (July 22, 2014) at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 2nd St SW, Mason City, with Rev. Joseph Mirowski, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, where a flag folding ceremony will be conducted by Mason City Veterans.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday (July 21, 2014) at Hogan Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, where a Trisagion prayer service will be held at 6 p.m., Monday.

George G. Hasse was born September 16, 1918 at Mason City, the oldest son of Gus and Fotini (Giannoupoulis) Hasapopoulos.

He attended Mason City schools and was a graduate of Mason City High School. George served in the US Army during WWII as a staff sergeant.

Following his discharge he moved to Des Moines, where he worked in the restaurant business. He married Xenia Argyros,, and to this union, a daughter Florine, was born. Later he returned to Mason City and began a long and successful business career with his brothers, Ted, Pete and Sam. They owned and operated several area businesses, including; The Bolero, Town House, Hasse’s Drive Inn, Mason City and the Holiday Motor Lodge, Clear Lake.

He was united in marriage to Shirley J. Despenas, on January 28, 1956, at Albert Lea, Minnesota.

George took a genuine interest in others and was very inclusive. He was passionate about the stock market. He enjoyed walking, jogging, and annual family vacations. He especially enjoyed spending the winter in California with his family.

He was a member of Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church.

Survivors include, his wife, Shirley Hasse, Mason City, Daughters, Florine (Ann) Hasse, San Diego, CA, Kim Hasse, Van Nuys, CA; son, Dean Hasse, Sherman Oaks, CA; sister, Bessie Schisel, Garner; brother, Sam (Marilyn) Hasapopoulos, Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dora Challas; brothers, Ted and Pete Hasapopoulos.
