Leo F. Steiner, 86, of Mason City, passed away on Tuesday June 10, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at Epiphany Parish - Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City. Committal services will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, where full military honors will be provided by the Mason City Veterans.

Visitation will be held at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in Leo's name to the Community Kitchen of North Iowa.

Leo Francis Steiner was born on Jan. 8, 1928, in Dougherty, the son of Clement and Kathleen (Fitzgerald) Steiner. He grew up in Rockwell and Mason City where he graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School.

Leo married Sarabelle Gilson on Oct. 6, 1951.

He served in the United States Army and upon his honorable discharge returned to Mason City and began his 35-year career as a proud member of International Iron Workers, Des Moines Local 67 until his retirement in 1983.

He was a member and volunteer at Holy Family Catholic Church and a longtime member of the American Legion Clausen-Worden Post No. 101.

After retiring he continued to work part time doing home remodeling and renovation for several years. Leo's remarkable skills as a woodworker were greatly appreciated by his friends and family.

Leo is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sarabelle, of Mason City; daughters, Kathleen (Mark) Stephenson, Maple Grove, Minn., and Deborah (Paul) Rodgers, Corcoran, Minn.; granddaughter, Heather Stephenson (Enmanuel Estrada), Sioux Falls, S.D.; grandson, Michael Stephenson, Minneapolis, Minn.; great-granddaughter, Maribel Estrada; sister, Mary Ludlow; and brother, Thomas Steiner.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, David, Joe, and a brother in infancy; as well as his mother and father-in-law, Agnes and Orville Gilson.
