Kunchetta “Kay” DiMarco, 103, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2016.

For the past five years, Kay was lovingly cared for by Little Sisters of the Poor at St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly in Palatine, IL.

Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Epiphany Parish-Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, Iowa, with the Rev. John Gossman officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2016, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City. A Catholic Daughters of America Rosary will be said at 6 p.m., followed by a Scriptural Wake.

Those who desire may make memorial contributions to Little Sisters of the Poor, 80 W. Northwest Highway, Palatine, IL.

Born on Dec. 7, 1912, in Mason City, IA, Kay is a twin and one of seven children born to Rose and Antonio Abbate. Kay had a very full and active life.

After attending Sacred Heart School in Dubuque and teaching shorthand, Kay developed a successful career as a seamstress. Among her many sewing accomplishments are producing costumes for one of “The Music Man” events in Mason City and designing and sewing countless “one of a kind” fashions for local residents.

After Kay retired as a seamstress, she continued to stay active by volunteering for numerous organizations in Mason City including Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Holy Family Catholic Circle, Catholic Order of Foresters, Foster Grandparent Program for the elementary school, and Mercy Medical Center where she logged over 6,500 volunteer hours.

Besides being an excellent cook, seamstress and avid reader, Kay was a devoted wife to Vincenzo James for 45 years, who preceded her in death.

Together they raised five children: Justine Warr, James, Phyllis Offret, Richard and Allan.

Kay is survived by her daughter, Justine, grandchildren Deborah (Richard) Armstrong, David Warr, William (Mary) Warr, Cheryl (Wayne) Scott, Rachelle Mallone, Jimmy (Re-Gina) DiMarco, Elizabeth (Joe) Perry, Carroll (Dale) Allday, John DiMarco, Shirley (Ted) Turner, Keri Blake, Tamara (Ed) Covey, Theresa (Mark) Milliken, Laurence ‘Bud’ (Jeanette) Lage, James Lage, Tracy (Jason) White, Cristina DiMarco, Jason DiMarco, Damon (Patricia) DiMarco.

Also survived by great-grandchildren Elizabeth Armstrong, Margaret (James) Morris, Christina (Ryan) Eaves, Jennifer Warr, Megan Gober, Garret (Lauren) Warr, Jacqueline West, Sheila Spivey, Tammy Malone, Patrick Michael Malone, Christian Malone, Patrick Malone Jr., Patricia Malone, Kenneth Malone, Michael Roberts, Ruby Roberts, Crystal Roberts, Kimberly Roberts, Jesse Perry, John Chance Perry, Sarah Perry, Chandace DiMarco, Chelsea DiMarco, Allie DiMarco, Vincent James DiMarco IV, Irene Voncele Allday, Dale Allday Jr., Jessica Allday, Theodore Turner, Jeffrey Allday, Willis Covey, Jarvis Covey, Lacey Wood, Rosalie White, Wynonna Lage, Luke Lage, Sydney DiMarco, Alex DiMarco, Jason DiMarco, Jadon Van Ornum, Dante DiMarco, Mya DiMarco and great-great-grandchildren Marshall Morris, Amelia Morris, Mia Brennan, Cooper Eaves, Nicola Warr, Vincent James West, John Robinson, Shawn Malone, Candace Malone, Christopher Malone, Shane Malone, Adrian Malone, Andrew Malone, Kristina Roberts, Valarie Roberts, Kayla Turner, Matthew Turner, Gavin Cox, Gabby Cox, Jasmine Ballard, Derrick Ballard, and Alice Lage.

Kay was also an aunt, cousin and sister-in-law to many and was preceded in death by her siblings, Angeline Mataloni, Mary Capuzzi (her twin sister), Louise Stickney, Rose Johnson, Damenicke Abbate and Giuseppina Abbate, grandchildren Sheila Spivey, Teresa DiMarco, Tony DiMarco, Lisa DiMarco and great-grandchildren Tasha Norris, Kelly Turner, and Toby Malone.

The family wishes to thank the Little Sisters of the Poor and staff at St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly for the excellent care Kay received while there.
