Lucille Levenhagen, 91, of Rockwell, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home, with family at her side.

Per Lucille’s wishes a graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014, at the Rockwell Cemetery, Rockwell, Iowa. Officiating will be the Rev. Rhea Evanson of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Lucille was born on June 25, 1922, in rural Rockwell, the daughter of Otto and Johanna (Lubben) Levenhagen, she was the oldest of 4 children and the only girl. She was a very loving and caring big sister to her brothers. Lucille lived in Rockwell her entire life, and attended school until the 8th grade there.

She was an active member at her church and in the women’s clubs there. She was an avid gardener, in the past she planted vegetables but flowers were her favorite, she even worked in her garden weeding up until last summer's end. Lucille raised chickens and provided farm fresh eggs. Lucille really enjoyed baking, she made homemade bread with cheese on it and she made the best molasses cookies. Her cats were very important to her, she loved them dearly. Going out to eat was something Lucille loved to do, and Dave’s in Charles City was her favorite place.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-laws, Margaret Levenhagen of Rockwell, Beverly Levenhagen of Mason City, and Patricia Levenhagen of Charles City. Her nieces and nephews Jerry Lorentzen, Bill (Nancy) Levenhagen, Barb (Fred) Jones, Dawn (David) Braun, Mark (Dawn) Levenhagen, Deb (Lee) Behr, Pam (Jeff) Carney, Paula (Mike) Leininger, Becky Kirchgatter, numerous great nieces and nephews. Also her close friends Ruthann Murphy, Delores Avise, Jo Deardeuff and her son Mike, and Brent Peters.

Those who have preceded her in death and are surely welcoming Lucille into heaven are her parents, three brothers, John, Al and James, and niece Nancy and nephew Gary.
