Henry H. Schoneman, 96, Clear Lake, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 1995, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 18, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. A graveside service was held at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton, Iowa. The family suggests memorials in his name.
Henry was born Jan. 10, 1899 in Thornton, Iowa, the son of Hans Schoneman and Elsie Marie (nee) Peterson Schoneman. He attended school in rural Thornton and helped on the family farm.
On Jan. 9, 1922 he married Mathilda Jorgensen. The couple owned and operated the Swaledale Restaurant and Grocery Store for eight years before moving to Clear Lake in March of 1943. They moved to Clear Lake, where he operated Schoneman Insurance Agency until his retirement in 1963. His wife preceded him in death July 11, 1961.
In January of 1963 he married Louise Barkhurst at Zion Lutheran Church Clear Lake. She died Aug. 7, 1984.
Henry loved to travel, play pool and was an avid baseball fan. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, and the Clear Lake Senior Citizens Center.
He is survived by a daughter, Geraldine Polsdofer and her husband, Jim, Rockwell, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Gladys Schoneman, Clear Lake; seven grandchildren, Nancy Kerr, Greenville, Texas, Mark Schoneman, Houston, Texas, Diane Romel, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, Paul Schoneman, Garner, Iowa, Larry Polsdofer, San Jose, Calif., Ed Polsdofer, Dallas, Texas, and Janet Alger, Clear Lake; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; a son, Roger, in 1983; two brothers, Lauritz and William Schoneman; and five sisters,
Christina, Marie, Henrietta, Elisa and Sena.Honorary pallbearers were Larry Polsdofer, Mark Schoneman, Terry Polsdofer,
