MESERVEY — Eugene “Bussy” Buss, 54, of Meservey, died Friday (Jan. 20, 2006) in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Retz-Grarup Funeral Home in Thornton with the Rev. Milton D. Johnson of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thornton presiding. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with a Masonic Rites Service at 7:30 p.m.

Eugene Marius Buss was born Dec. 15, 1951, in Hampton, a son of Otto and Irene (Neve) Buss. He was confirmed at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and graduated from Meservey-Thornton High School. Eugene attended NIACC, UNI and DMACC, taking agriculture courses.

Eugene worked as a truck driver for Kuhlmeier Farms and hauled beans for many area farmers. He also worked at Donna’s Lounge in Meservey and was known for his famous “Bussy Burger.”

Devoted in service as a Mason, Eugene was a Past Master of Benevolence Lodge 145, a member of El Kahir Shrine, served as Past President of the North Iowa Shrine Club and was a Master Artisan in the Order of Quetzalcoatl.

Eugene collected miniature farm implements and enjoyed his dog, Queenie. He looked forward to spending time with people while he worked at Donna’s on the weekends.

Eugene is survived by his mother, Irene Buss, of Meservey; three brothers: Curtis (Victoria) Buss, of Mason City; Larry (Glenda) Buss, of Mason City; and Gordon (Carmen) Buss, Ridgeway; nieces and nephews: Rebecka (Casey) Hebert, Julie (Mark) Melver, Noah and Jacob Buss; and a whole host of friends and relatives.

He is preceded in death by his father, paternal and maternal grandparents, and one infant brother.
