Marcia J. Shaffer, 84, Ventura, Iowa, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 4, at the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor Thomas Healey officiating. Inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, at a later date. Memorials may be given to the First Congregational Church in her name. Pat Treloar was the organist. Deb Hild was soloist, singing "Lord, I Stretch My Hands to You" and "Be Not Afraid." Michael Grandon, Thomas Healy and Larry Shaffer delivered eulogies.

Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Johnson and Fred Banks. Pallbearers were Milford Knutson, Matt Knutson, Todd Knutson, David Rosendahl, Lynn Rosendahl, Robert Skene and Russell Mott.

Marcia was born June 9, 1916, in Mason City, the daughter of Pearl Morrow and Pearl Mae (Oxley) Hickok. She graduated from Ventura High School in 1934. She attended Iowa State Teachers College and taught elementary school in Dows and Coulter, Iowa for three years. She married Bill Shaffer June 29, 1939 at her parentıs home south of Ventura. They moved to Clear Lake where they started their family and lived there until 1955. They moved back to the family farm. She continued to live there after Billıs death in 1978. Marcia was active in helping with many aspects of farm life, gardening, selling eggs, raising lambs, unloading grain wagons, and preparing many great meals. Marcia moved to The Meadows in 1998. She moved to Oakwood Care Center in 1999 and lived there until her death.

She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church and taught Sunday school there in her younger years. She was also a 50-year member of the Motherıs Study Club.

Marcia is survived by her sons Larry A. Shaffer and his wife Kathy, Ventura, and Arlan L. Shaffer and his wife Cathy, Porterville, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Shaffer, Monticello, Iowa and J Dylan Shaffer, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Bill.
