Arthur C. Seidel, 83, of Mason City, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus, Mason City.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 19 at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, Mason City, with the Rev. Harvey Seidel officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Arthur C. Seidel Memorial Fund.

Arthur C. Seidel was born on April 20, 1914 in Worth County, the son of Charles and Maude (Wood) Seidel. He attended country schools in rural Lincoln Township.

After receiving his schooling, he farmed for a short time prior to entering the military service in 1942. Arthur served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Amphibious Engineering Battalion. He received the Purple Heart.

After his military service, he returned to farming northwest of Mason City.

On Jan. 15, 1946, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Bishop at Mason City.

The couple moved to Mason City in 1967 and Arthur was employed by the Cerro Gordo County Farm, until retirement in 1978.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Mason City.

He is survived by two brothers, Frank Seidel, Hanlontown, Iowa, Marcus Seidel, Mason City; one sister, Mrs. Florence Benjegerdes, Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn; an infant daughter; two sisters, Mary Schlotterback, Melissa Wichman; and four brothers, Lock Seidel, Charlie Seidel, Clarence Seidel and an infant brother.
