William Joseph Rogers, 66, of 722 North Tyler, Mason City, died, Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, in Mason City.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 1, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, with the Rev. William Peak officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery with military flag folding ceremony by the Mason City Veterans Association.

William Joseph Rogers was born on Dec. 14, 1935, in Van Buren, Ark., the son of Ruby G. (Knight) Rogers. He attended and received his elementary education in the Van Buren, Arkansas school system, graduating from Valley High School in West Des Moines. While at Valley High he was involved in many sports activities. William also attended Grandview College in Des Moines. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1953, and served overseas in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1956. He was united in marriage to Janice E. Koelder on May 25, 1979, in Albert Lea, Minn. William worked for the Rock Island Railroad, Chicago North Western, and the Union Pacific Railroad for 39 years and retired in 1997, as a railroad engineer. He was a member of the B.L.E. Railroad union.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and woodworking, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Janice Rogers of Mason City; children and their families, Mark Rogers and his wife, Julie, of Urbandale, Iowa, Kyle, Brooke, and Kristen, Arminda Monaghan and her husband, Don, of St. Charles, Iowa, Allison, Audra, Christina, and Cassandra, Teresa (Teri) Witter and her husband, Scott, of Mason City, Stephen, Jonathan, Emily, Chris, and Justin, Kathleen Berg and her husband, Rick, of West Des Moines, Justin, Tarrah, Adam, and Valerie, William Rogers and his wife, Deanne, of Waukee, Iowa, Cole, Luke, Mark, and Dillon; Renee Boehnke and her husband, Jim, of Clear Lake, Kelsey and Andrew, Elizabeth Morrell and Sydney of Omaha, Neb.; Amy Barrantes and her husband, Adrian, of West Des Moines, Alexandra, Alyssa, and Alivia, Christine Dusold of Cedar Falls; Dawn Simkins of Cedar Falls, Joshua, Brandon, and Lindsey; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby.
