Gwendolyn L. (Wilson) Peterson, 92, formerly of Mason City, passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, at Sunny Hill Care Center, Tama, Iowa.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapels, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Steve Hansen officiating.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, following the service.

A visitation will be held 12 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapels, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the VFW, Mason City.

Gwendolyn was born April 4, 1923, daughter of Lester and Flossie (Caldwell) Wilson, in Traer, Iowa. Gwendolyn was the oldest of nine children. She graduated from Mason City High School, class of 1941. She was united in marriage to Gerald “Pete” Peterson on May 2, 1953, in Nashua, Iowa. She worked for 10 years as a para for Mason City School system.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Gwendolyn enjoyed sewing clothes, making quilts, and embroidering tea towels. She loved cooking for her family and friends. After retiring she enjoyed camping, fishing, and genealogy with Pete.

She is survived by her three children, Jerry Peterson, of Mason City, Jeralyn (Thomas) Smith, of Chelsea, Iowa, and James Peterson, of Lakota, Iowa; brother, Billy Dean Wilson; two sisters, Betty Lee (Stan) Conger, and Patty (Don) Elsbury; two sisters in-law, Billie Wilson, and Marilyn Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Flossie Wilson; two sons, Wally Peterson, and Jeffrey Peterson; four brothers, Bobby, Teddy, Leland, and G. Gaylen Wilson; sister, Claudine Wilson.
