Robert Gene McPhail, 87, Mason City, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

A funeral service for Robert will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy. 18 West, Mason City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church.

Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert G. McPhail was born on April 3, 1927, in Stacyville, the son of Reed and Golda (Donner) McPhail. He attended the Little Cedar Schools in Osage.

Robert was united in marriage to Louise J. Stromley on Feb. 25, 1945, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage.

Robert worked for the Water Department for the City of Mason City for 37 plus years as a Meter Reader for the city until his retirement in 1989.

Robert enjoyed dancing, listening to Big Band music, watching football, and hearing his daughter Patricia singing, but his great love and enjoyment was being with his family and grandchildren.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Louise J. McPhail of Mason City; his children, Connee F. (Steve) Mandt of Peoria, Arizona, Carmon J. (Carol) McPhail of Mason City, Karen (Bob) Bahl of Rogers, Arkansas, and Kathy (Dennis) Hansen of Mason City; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Marla Rosel of Cedar Rapids, and Judith (Robert) Fletcher of Houston, Texas; a brother, Darrell McPhail of California; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Mava, and Patricia; and a brother, Richard.
