Ray L. Matson, 82, of Mason City, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W., with the Rev. Steve Hansen officiating.

Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and continue at the church Saturday one hour before the service.

Ray was born Jan. 13, 1932, in Fertile, the son of Hans and Mildred (Zobel) Matson. He graduated from Clear Lake High School. Ray enlisted in the US Navy and served four years. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended Hamilton Business College. Ray married Dorothy Lubben on Aug. 25, 1956, in Mason City. Ray worked for the M&StL Railroad, which was later bought out by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, for 38 years. After retiring from the railroad, he worked for Herb & George TV helping to install satellite dishes. A few of Ray’s interests included NASCAR, golfing and bowling.

Ray is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Mason City; children, Kurt (Debra) Matson of Tecumseh, Michigan, Kim Peters and mate Philip Ehrenberg of Thornton and Kyle (Julia) Matson of Plymouth, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Jeff Matson, Justin Matson, Jeremy Matson, Josh Peters, Mike Matson, Jamie Peters, Jared Matson, Alicia Matson and Carter Matson; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Emersyn; brother, Richard (Bonna) Matson of Mason City; two sisters, Vera (Chuck) Walk of Mason City and Evelyn Matson-Davis of Altoona; uncle, Floyd Zobel of Lincoln, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents.
