Betty Lou Johnson, 91, of Mason City, Iowa died Tuesday Dec. 27, 2016, at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at Epiphany Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, Iowa, with the Rev. Neil Manternach officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, Iowa, with a scriptural wake service at 5:30 p.m. Family suggests memorials to Humane Society of North Iowa or Patriots for Pets, in lieu of flowers.

Betty was born April 23, 1925, in Mason City, Iowa the daughter of John and Mary (Swehla) Guelff. She graduated from Mason City High School and then La James School of Cosmetology, Mason City, Iowa. She was self employed as a beautician for over fifty years.

She married Edward "Buster" Johnson Dec. 8, 1945, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, Iowa and to this union two daughters were born.

Betty was a member of Epiphany Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, Iowa and was a life time of Mason City V.F.W. Auxiliary. Prior to Buster's death, she and Buster were always together. Betty enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved all animals especially dogs, fishing, collecting cook books and cooking. She enjoyed volunteering at the Sharing Shoppe, Sheffield and at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City where she was member of Mercy Auxiliary.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Mary (Einar "Butch") Anderson, Mason City, Iowa and Shari (Richard) Showalter, Sheffield, Iowa; 6 grandchildren Jeffrey (Lois) Anderson, Mason City, Christopher (Tanya) Showalter, Dumont, Katie (Jeffery Wenzel) Showalter, Ventura Heights, Joseph (Kelli) Showalter, Sheffield, Dustin Showalter (special friend Amy Vossberg), Hampton and Joshua (Lindsey) Showalter, Sheffield; 13 great-grandchildren Brady Anderson, Mason City, Mackenzie and Michael Showalter, Dumont, Bailey and Kalen Ayers and Kasen Wenzel, Ventura Heights, Andyn, Addyson and Aubryee, Sheffield , Chase and Sierra Showalter, Hampton and Tenley and Tate Showalter, Sheffield; brother-in- law, Edwin "Bunny" Johnson, Mason City; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Helen Holtzendorf; brother John (Bud) Guelff; two step-brothers and a step-sister.
