Duane R. Floy, 69, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 6, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with the Msgr. Joseph J. Slepicka officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Military honors will be by the Clear Lake VFW. A scriptural wake service will be held today (Wednesday), Aug. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, followed by K.C. Rosary.

Duane was born Sept. 19, 1928 in rural Forest City, Iowa, the son of John and Pearl (Johnson) Floy. He attended school in Fertile, Iowa. Following school he served in the Army during World War II. After the service he moved back to the Clear Lake area.

Duane drove school bus for Ventura Schools and drove truck for Lau Trucking Lines in Fertile. He later worked at the Feed Mill in Garner in late fall of 1951 to early spring of 1952.

He married Ida DeWeerdt on Nov. 7, 1951 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Garner, Iowa. He then went to work for Clear Lake Sand and Gravel. He worked for Cerro Gordo Road Maintenance Department for over 29 years, retiring in 1991. After his retirement he was the custodian and handy man for St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Duane enjoyed working in the garage, helping his neighbors, visiting with people and the fishing trips to Leach Lake.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the American Legion in Clear Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Floy, Clear Lake; three children, Kathy Kliven and her husband, Don, Valley City, N.D., Mark Floy and his wife, Pam, LeMars, Iowa, and Lisa Floy, Clear Lake; two sisters, Roselee Stockseth and her husband, Merlin, Belmond, Iowa, Vida Sutherland and her husband, Robert, Sandy, Ore.; and one brother, Lehman Floy and his wife, Shirley, Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Tania Kliven, Holly Kliven, Chad Kliven, Ryan Floy, Andrew Floy and Samantha Floy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Marlowe Floy; and one sister, Mavis Stehn.
