Everett Hanks Enabnit Jr. was born Oct. 21, 1945, the son of Emma Irene (Cunningham) and Everett Hanks Enabnit Sr. He was known to many by his nickname, “Jr.”

On Dec. 20, 1966, Everett entered into active duty with the U.S. Army and committed himself to the service of his country as a medic during the Vietnam War. After faithfully completing his military duties as an E-6 sergeant, Everett was formally and honorably discharged from the Army on Feb. 26, 1974, from Fort Sheridan, Ill.

While in the Army and stationed in South Korea, Everett met his future wife, Young Hui. Everett was sent to Vietnam, however, during military leave times he would travel back and forth to visit Young Hui in Korea where, eventually, the couple married. A daughter, Laura, was born to this union.

Everett accepted a new duty location back in the United States as a recruiter in Chicago.

Young Hui died on May 18, 1975. Everett and Laura moved to Clear Lake.

Following their move to Clear Lake, Jr. reconnected with and began dating a special lady friend, Katherine Irene “Kathie” Staley. Their relationship blossomed and the couple was united in marriage on Oct. 5, 1984, in LaCrosse, Wis.

Together they found great adventure in fishing, camping and frequenting thrift stores in search of oriental pieces, which they both treasured. Jr. often commented that he enjoyed, “the thrill of the hunt!” Jr. and Kathie lovingly parented daughters, Laura and Jamie.

Described as a very intelligent and spirited man who “seemed to march to his own drummer,” Jr. possessed a wonderful sense of humor!

Some of his interests and hobbies included watching the History and Discovery channels on television, he was especially fond of ancient and Roman history, cooking and serving his “firehouse chili” and spending as much time as possible with his family.

He was a talented artist, often producing beautiful etchings, painting and carvings. Jr. was a former member of the Amvets in Clear Lake.

Due to ill health, Jr. became disabled in 1999, however, his family recalls his earlier years of dedication to the Army and his employments with Smithford Industries where he worked in quality control and at the Hayfield Industries Fiberglass Co.

Jr. will be dearly missed by his wife, Katherine “Kathie” Enabnit of Mason City; his daughters, Laura (Monty) Williamson of Clear Lake and Jamie (John) Simon of Mason City; his sister, Izetta Fischer of Mason City; his sister-in-law, Patricia Enabnit of Fort Dodge; his granddaughter, Chloe Williamson of Clear Lake; his grandson, Donnie Miller of Palm Desert, Calif., and numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding Jr. in death are his first wife, Young Hui Enabnit; his parents, Emma and Everett Enabnit, Sr.; and his brother, Richard Enabnit.
