Rose Dawson, 95, of Mason City, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at Epiphany Parish-Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, Mason City, with the Reverend Neil Manternach officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Scriptural Wake Service, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City.

Memorials may be given to Epiphany Parish-Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, Mason City, or Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St. SE, Mason City.

Rose Marie Dawson was born May 30, 1921, in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of James and Mary Ann (Miljavac) Thomas. In 1936, Rose and her family moved to Mason City. She graduated from Holy Family High School in 1939.

Rose was united in marriage to Lester H. Dawson on Oct. 12, 1940, at the Holy Family rectory in Mason City. They made their home in Mason City. Rose and Les were married for 61 years and raised four children: two sons, Mark and Bill, and two daughters, Sharon and Judy.

Rose was active in the Holy Family Church Guild. She worked side-by-side with Lester at Dawson Home Improvement, was an enthusiastic Hawkeye fan, an avid walker, and enjoyed playing cards (she usually won). She loved celebrating holidays and birthdays with her family with lots of food and conversation. Rose and Lester traveled to Las Vegas every year before visiting family across the United States.

Rose is survived by two sons, Mark Dawson, Mason City and Bill (Monica) Dawson, San Diego, CA; two daughters, Sharon Stevens, Tucson, AZ, and Judy (Gene) Rayburn, St. Paul, MN; five grandchildren, Tani Rose (Kevin), Jeff, Todd, Brad (Nicole), and Matthew; 9 great-grandchildren, Marcus, Brandi, Shenae, TJ, Brennan, Clayton, Lincoln, Bradley, and Jacob; 5 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Betty Hermanson, San Diego, CA; her sister-in-law, Marge Thomas, Ankeny, Iowa; as well as NUMEROUS nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; her parents, James and Mary Ann (Miljavac) Thomas; her son-in-law, Darryl Stevens; three sisters, Mary Kasinac, Helen Hermanson, and Dorothy Wass; five brothers, John “Jay,” Michael, James, Walter, and Joe Thomas; five sisters-in-law, Helen Thomas, Winifred Thomas, Lorraine Thomas, Colleen Thomas, and Alice Wright; and four brothers-in-law, Frank Kasinac, Harold Wass, Melvin Hermanson and Don Wright.
