Dennis John “Denny” Davis, 69, of 604 S. 12th St., Clear Lake, died Wednesday Nov. 27, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Chaplin Beverly Butler of Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa officiating. Visitation will begin one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. The family suggests memorials to the Dennis John Davis Memorial Fund.

Dennis was born April 17, 1944, in Mason City, the son of Leonard and Alta (Shaffer) Davis. He attended school in Clear Lake.

He enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star. Following the service he moved to Grinnell, where he was a plumber. He later moved to Clear Lake, worked for the city of Clear Lake and then the Iowa Department of Transportation until he retired in 2006.

Dennis enjoyed fishing, and especially enjoyed babysitting and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Clear Lake V.F.W. and was a former member of the Clear Lake Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his son Mark E. (Jen) Davis, Delaware, Ohio, and their children Decorah and Danika and his son Jason J. (Ashley) Davis, Mason City, Iowa, and their children Maximus, Leona “Sugar Babe” and Amaya; his three siblings Dean D. (Carlene) Davis, Mason City, Iowa, Ruth Ann (Brian) Young, Rochester, Minn., and Joan K. (Ralph) Davey, Manly, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Leonard Davis; mother Alta Bunting; brother Duane Davis and nephew Steven Davis.
