Joseph 'Joe' B. Crooks
February 3, 1939 - July 13, 2017

Joseph 'Joe' B. Crooks, 78, of Mason City, passed away Thursday, (July 13, 2017) at Home surrounded by family.

A memorial mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, (July 17, 2017) at Epiphany Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th Street SE, Mason City with Rev. Austin Wilker officiating.

Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery following the service with military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans.

A visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday (July 16, 2017) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street NE, Mason City, with a scriptural wake being held at 6:30 p.m.

Joe was born February 3, 1939 in Dougherty, Iowa, son of Wilber and Gladys (Holding) Crooks. He attended Saint Patrick's, class of 1958. Shortly after graduating, Joe was drafted into the United States Army in 1962. He worked as a military policeman and was selected to be an honor guard at President Johnson's inauguration, and was honorably discharged in 1968.

Joe was united in marriage to Shirley Nelson Jeffries on November 8, 1974. Joe worked for Lehigh Cement Company for twenty-one years and retired in 1989.

After retiring Joe and Shirley lived on their acreage for twenty-five years. Joe attended numerous auctions through the years and as a result had shelves of treasures. He was well known in town for his rummage sales, and earning the nickname Rummage Sale Joe.

He enjoyed going to see his great grandson, Laddy Man, race his go kart. He enjoyed going to Rockwell Legion on Thursday's to play cards with his friends. Joe looked forward to watching all of his grandkids sports.

Joe is survived by his wife, Shirley; six brothers, Lawrence (Judy) Crooks, Marvin (Lois) Crooks, Jim Crooks, Bob (Sue) Crooks, Mike (Judie) Crooks and Ramond Crooks; sister, Sandra (Cliff) Williams; four children, Bruce (Laurie) Jeffries, Harvey (Sharon) Jeffries, Tim (Cheryl) Jeffries, and Roxie Francis; ten grandchildren, Cathy, Stacy, Kirk, Nichole, Michelle, Brooke, Brittany, Nathan, Allison, Tosha; twenty-six great grandchildren, Camden, Lucas, Katie, Alex, Jessie, Jaelynn, Brody, Josie, Layton, Kayleigh, Noah, Raegen, Alysa, Clayton, Jackson, Will, Bryana, Boston, Cailynn, Betsy, Avaree, Taylor, Brice, Collins, Myah, Landyn; nine great great grandchildren, Kendal, Thaelynn, Remington, Emersyen, Gabe, Bentley, Gracie, Asher, Clarity.

He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; mother in-law Arcley Nelson; two sisters, Loretta and Barb; brother Lloyd; nephew Eugene; granddaughter, Brandee; brother in-law Eugene.
