VIRGINIA MILLARD
October 30, 1925 - November 17, 2013

Virginia Mary Ellen (Scholl) Millard, 88, Clear Lake and formerly of Manly, Iowa, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

A funeral mass for Virginia was held on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell, Iowa, with Rev. Rodney Allers officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Rockwell.

Virginia Mary Ellen (Scholl) Millard was born on Oct. 30, 1925 in Rockwell, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Kipper) Scholl. Virginia received her education in the Rockwell schools, graduating from Rockwell High School. She was united in marriage to Raymond Millard on Sept. 7, 1946, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City, and to this marriage three children were born, LaVern, Barbara Jane, and Beverly. Raymond preceded her in death on April 2, 2008.

After their marriage, they began farming in 1946 in the Rockwell area, and continued to farm in the Kensett area until they retired.

Virginia enjoyed traveling, wintering in Weslaco, Texas, fishing, cooking, gardening, and gambling; but her greatest love and enjoyment was spending time with her family.

She was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, LaVern (Rosemary) Millard of Independence, Iowa, and Beverly (Darreld “Buzz” Jr,) Petersen, of Clear Lake; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kim) Millard, Raymond (Angela) Millard, Nicholas (Amy) Millard, Darren (Renee) Petersen, and Darreld (Shila) Petersen III; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; as well as many nieces, nephews and many other extended family members and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; daughter, Barbara Jane Millard; five sisters, and one brother.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
