Carol J. Rannals, 75, 405 27th Ave. S., Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
A memorial service was held Friday, Nov. 11, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Memorials may be given to North Iowa Hospice and American Cancer Association.
Carol was born Nov. 3, 1936 in Oxford Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Agnes (Koranda) Blizek. She graduated from Maquoketa High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. Carol married Allen Rannals in 1956 and to this union four children were born, Bill, Barb, Bob and Becky.
Carol started teaching elementary school in Two Harbors, Minn. and retired as a substitute teacher at Clear Lake Middle School and Clear Lake High School. She was a homemaker for many years before “subbing”.
Carol’s hobbies included flower gardening, reading, playing golf, watching football, being a Clear Lake sports fan, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Clear Lake All Vets Woman’s Golf League, Oak Hills Par 3 Woman’s Golf Club, and bridge club. Carol moved to Apple Valley Assisted Living on Aug. 1 of this year. The family wants to give a special thanks to Del and Harriett Winter for the love and support during the past year.
Carol is survived by her two sons, Bill (Connie Goodman) Rannals, Richmond, Va., and Bob (Monica) Rannals, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; two daughters, Barb (Jim) Istas, Eagan, Minn., and Becky (David) Edmundson, Eldridge, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Dr. Matt Rannals, Janette Peterson, Kathryn Rannals, Maggie Istas, Janice Rannals, Alex Rannals, Callie Istas, Janelle Rannals, Scott Edmundson and Rachel Edmundson; two sisters, Marlene (Bob) Kellogg, Bella Vista, Ark., and Shirley (Paul) Graul, Spokane, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen, on Jan. 4, 2008; and several brothers and sisters.
