Tuesday, April 26, 2011THORNTON — Jean Baker, 87, of Thornton and Sheffield, passed away Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, at Richland Lutheran Church, Thornton with the Rev. Samuel Schmeling presiding. Interment will be at Richland Lutheran Cemetery, Thornton.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today, Tuesday, at Retz Funeral Home, 107 N. Second St., Thornton.
Jean (Ginapp) Baker was born Dec. 12, 1923, in Geneseo Township near Sheffield to Henry and Clara Eliason Ginapp. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church east of Sheffield and graduated from Sheffield High School in 1941.
Jean was united in marriage with Russell V. Baker in Bethany, Mo. They made their home farming in the Thornton area. After raising their family they began wintering in the San Diego area and had 20 years of memories there.
After Russell’s death Jean lived in her own home in Sheffield and was the first resident of the Deerfield Place Assisted Living Center.
Jean was a member of Richland Lutheran Church in Thornton and the Thornton Garden Club. She enjoyed playing a good game of pinochle or marbles, gardening, playing golf or fishing. She always enjoyed visits from her family and friends and loved to find a bargain while shopping.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Barbara Logan, Magee, Miss.; Robert (Joy) Baker, Thornton; Roger (Sandy) Baker, Sheffield; grandchildren: Eric (Jill) Logan, New Brighton, Minn.; Kimberly (David) Herrema, Minneapolis, Minn.; Adam (Bonnie) Baker, Minnetonka, Minn.; great grandchildren: Jack and Quinn Logan, Christopher Baker and Olivia Herrema; and sister-in-law LuVerne Bell, Thornton.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 1997, a daughter, Mary Ann and brother Henry Ginapp, Jr.
