MASON CITY — Thomas “Tom” H. Als, 69, of Mason City, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the VFW Post 733.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

Tom was born August 4, 1946, to Harold A. and Pearl M. (Wolf) Als in Hampton, Iowa. He lived with his parents on their family farm and attended schools in Hampton, graduating in 1964. He graduated from Hamilton Business College. Tom served in the Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. After his service, he returned to North Iowa.

He married Linda Tapps and resided in Mason City with his family. He worked at Park Hospital as Business Office Manager for several years before joining Interstate Power Company as their Credit Coordinator where he took great pride in assisting customers with paying their bills.

Tom is survived by his wife; his daughter Lori Meyering and husband Philip and their son Anthony; his son Scott and wife Molly and their sons Quinten and Keenan; his mother Pearly Als and mother-in-law Myrtle Tapps; his brother, Jerry Als and wife Vickie and his family; and sister-in-law Marilyn and her husband Grant Harold and their family.

Mr. Als was preceded in death by his father, Harold Als; and his father-in-law, Raymond Tapps.
