Dann Douglas Hyde, 65, passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home, in Spencer, Iowa, on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016.

Graveside services were held on Friday, Sept. 23, at the Ventura Cemetery, Ventura, Iowa, with Pastor Lee Laaveg officiating.

Dann Douglas Hyde, the son of Jack and Myrtle (Pinneke) Hyde, was born on Aug. 9, 1951, in Mason City, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Ventura, right next to the water tower. He graduated from Ventura High School and later attended Hamilton Business College, in Mason City. Dann entered the military in 1970 and served with the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1976.

After his military career, Dan moved to Spencer. Dann operated his own insurance agency throughout Iowa and parts of Nebraska from 1976 until 1987, until going to work for KUOO Radio Station until 1994. He moved to Oklahoma in 1994 and sold real estate and worked in produce for a supermarket for seven years until returning to Spencer in 2001. He worked several jobs in Spencer until his retirement in 2004.

Dann was an avid follower of sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and was a very competitive golfer in his early years. He was a very accomplished salesman and had long held the record for sales with Combined Insurance Company.

He was preceded in death by his father; one son, Jesse and a brother, Dick.

Warner Funeral Home, Spencer, was in charge of arrangements.
