Leah Peters, 85 of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St. Clear Lake, with Lay Pastors Derek Crawford and Ben Schrade officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Family suggests memorial contributions to Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Leah was born on August 22, 1930, the daughter of Frank, Sr. and Alma (Francis) Banning in Spirit Lake. She married Everett Peters on December 3, 1949, in Spirit Lake. After nearly 50 years of marriage he preceded her in death on February 13, 1999.

A graduate of Spirit Lake High School, class of 1948, Leah worked as a telephone switchboard operator before working at the Piggly Wiggly. She and Everett owned and operated Lake Crest Restaurant while also farming for many years. Leah also worked for Frozen Foods Distributing and the Area Education Agency.

Leah was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. She enjoyed helping Everett on the farm as well as traveling to California with him. She was an excellent baker, cook and seamstress. She made clothing for her children and even sewed her own wedding dress. As an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, she always enjoyed watching them play football and basketball. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren.

Leah is survived by four children, David Scott Peters of Atlanta, GA, Coralene (Brian) Hall of Clear Lake, Michael (Robin) Peters of North Liberty, and Steven (Melanie) Peters of Waverly; 13 grandchildren, Seth (Shandi) Peters, Lane (Shannon) Peters, Kyle (Jennifer) Peters, Cassandra Collins, Jessica Collins, Zachary (Sara) Hall, Alexis Hall, Ashley Hall, Jordan (fiancé, Mara) Peters, Aaron Peters, Stephan Peters, Nathan Peters, and Hannah Peters; eight great-grandchildren, Caleb, Carter, and Cameron Hall, Carley, Avery and Evelyn Peters, Keaton Peters, and Savina Perez; and a sister, Bernadine Kolpin of Estherville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Frank, Jr. and George.
