Stephen “Steve” Beryl Lahner, 64 of Clear Lake, died Monday, May 9, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus in Rochester, MN.

Per Steve’s wishes, his body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Stephen Lahner Memorial Fund.

Steve was born February 7, 1952, the son of Dale and Luella (Siems) Lahner in Mason City. He grew up and attended school in Sheffield, graduating from Sheffield-Chapin High School.

Steve was a skilled electrician known by many in the North Iowa area for his work. He was a true innovator in the electric motors industry and owned and operated MN-IA Electric Motors in Clear Lake.

Steve was a member of Clear Lake Lions Club, Electrical Apparatus Service Association, and was a board member of the Clear Lake Sanitary District. He was always adventurous and enjoyed flying planes for most of his life, climbing mountains which included summiting Mt. Rainier in recent years, and had a passion for music. He had an endless thirst for knowledge that enabled many self-taught skills and trades. He loved his family and spending time with them; especially his grandkids. One of his greatest joys was taking them on an annual trip, which included several trips to Disney World.

Steve was an incredibly generous man to his family and friends, and continued that generosity posthumously by donating his eyes to the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank.

Steve is survived by three children, Bridget (Nate) Adams of North Liberty, Ryan (Carrie) Lahner of Clear Lake, and Alison (Colin) Helmke of Hampton; seven grandchildren, Dustin, Carter, Hannah, Mara, Hayden, Bentley and Lexi; seven siblings, Susan (Mike) Harris of Sheffield, David (Nancy) Lahner of Boone, Mary (Mike) Kranz of Clarion, Jeanne (Mark) Brandt of Baltimore, MD, Bill (Annette) Lahner of Sheffield, Anne (David) Foster of Chagrin Falls, OH, and Pete (Andra) Lahner of Spring Hill, KS; a special friend, Glenda Kelly of Lubbock, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved K-9 friend, DJ.
