John Edward Guhl, 77, of Clear Lake, Iowa went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday April 12, 2016 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

Celebration of John’s Life will be 11:00a.m. Friday April 15, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, Iowa with Rev. Steve Bang officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials go to the John Edward Guhl memorial fund in care of Nancey Guhl, 817 9th Ave. S., Clear Lake, Iowa 50428.

John was born July 12, 1938 in Anamosa, Iowa the son of Louis H. and Anna (Schmalfeldt) Guhl. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. John Lutheran Church, Olin, Iowa. He graduated Olin High School, Olin, Iowa in 1959.

He worked at Cedar Rapids Abstract, Metropolitan Supply, Cedar Rapids and then Guhl Standard Station, in Olin, Iowa. In 1981 he went to work for Iowa State Dept. of Corrections in Anamosa, Iowa, retiring in 2000. He married Nancey Mix December 22, 1995 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa, Iowa.

Following his retirement they moved to Clear Lake, Iowa.

While living in Olin he was a member of Olin Volunteer Fire Dept., Olin Lions Club and later was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa. He was very proud to share his faith and love of Jesus Christ with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, flipping houses, carpentry, camping, working on cars, baseball, dancing, watching TV westerns and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes supporter.

He is survived by his loving wife Nancey (Mix) Guhl, Clear Lake, Iowa; daughters Dena Ortgies, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Joleen (Ronald) Wheeler, Mason City, Iowa; brother Lyle (Yvonne) Guhl, Plymouth, Minnesota; sister-in-law Mary Lou (Louis) Hoffman, Mason City, Iowa and brother-in-law Larry (Claudette) Mix, Clear Lake, Iowa; three grandsons Joe Hall, Christian Jensen and Zachary Jensen all of Mason City, Iowa; two great granddaughters Maddisen Hall and Noel Jensen and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Kenneth Guhl and his wife Colleen; nephew James Guhl; son Alan Patro and his son-in-law Pete Jensen and also his two beloved cats Spike and Missy.
