Hazel E. Leaman, 90, of Mason City, IA, died Sunday, January 3, 2016, at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Janet Dorenkamp, Chaplain – Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Hazel Leaman memorial fund in care of the family.

Hazel was born September 17, 1925, in Mason City, the daughter of Uel and Dorothy (Sells) Howe. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1944. On August 21, 1945, Hazel was united in marriage to Earl S. Leaman in Mason City. Over the years, she was a homemaker and also worked for Libby Owen Ford for 18 years before retiring in 1988. Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed playing the organ, shopping and crafting tables from ceramic tile. Hazel found joy and happiness in helping others. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church where she was active in Church Circle.

Hazel is survived by 2 daughters: Gloria Hegland of Mason City and her special friend: Howard Marshall of Nora Springs, IA, and Carol Washburn and husband Lowell of Clear Lake, IA; 1 grandson: Matt Washburn and wife Renee of Ventura, IA; 2 great granddaughters: Natalie and Riley Washburn; 1 sister: Mary Sable of Mason City; and brother-in-law: Dale Raymond of Oshkosh, WI. She is also survived by her special friend: Jay Erickson of Good Shepherd Health Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1988; grandson: Travis Washburn; son-in-law: Max Hegland; 1 brother: Melvin Howe; 2 sisters: Mildred Prohaska and Alberta Rheingans; and sister-in-law: Maurine Raymond.
