David Newton Parks, 70, of Clear Lake, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

There will be a Celebration of Dave’s life from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at the Clear Lake V.F.W. with a sharing of memories at 3 p.m. followed by military honors presented by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Honor Guard. Family suggests memorials to Clear Lake V.F.W. Honor Guard or St. Mary Hospital, Rochester.

Dave was born March 2, 1945 at his home in Rockwell, Iowa. He was the son of Victor and Helen (Vierkant) Parks. He graduated from Rockwell High School in 1963. Following high school he attended and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa.

He served in the United States Army, after graduating from college. After his discharge he worked for the Secret Service in the White House under Richard Nixon, then for Job Service in Mason City. He also worked as a realtor in Clear Lake for many years, working for Triad Realty at the time of his passing.

Dave was a member of the Clear Lake V.F.W., where he was commander for two years and a member of Clear Lake V.F.W. Honor Guard for many years. He had a great passion for Clear Lake and was involved in the Clear Lake Chamber, Economic Development Corp., and Clear Lake Board of Realtors.

He married Diane Ward on June 12, 1999, in Laughlin, Nev.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending his winters in Florida.

Dave is survived by his wife, Diane Parks, Clear Lake; two daughters, Victoria (Nick) Murphy, Sherman Oaks, Calif. and Davi Jakl, Poplar Grove, Ill.; and one son, Zachary Parks, Kansas City, Mo.; stepson, Adam (Erin) Tyler, Ventura, Iowa; brother, Jack (special friend, Bonnie Fritz) Parks, Rockwell; sister, Donna Ludvigson, Edgewood, Iowa; six grandchildren, Travis, Ceann, Leo, Jules, Ivy and Avah; mother-in-law, Rosemary Ward, Clear Lake; brothers-in-law, Doug (Linda) Ward, Clear Lake and Dave (Jacque) Ward, Monroe, Conn.; aunts, Hazel Darg, Rockwell and Wilda Vierkant, Springfield, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Chan Ward; brother-in-law, Casper Ludvigson; and many aunts and uncles.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
