Bertha Alta Pahus, 95, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015, at Oakwood Care Center, in Clear Lake.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 11495 265th St., Mason City, with Pastor Robert Harting officiating. Inurnment will follow services in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Family suggests memorial contributions to Richland Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.
Bertha was born Oct. 4, 1920, the daughter of Jacob and Alta (Lehman) Oettchen in Cerro Gordo County. She married Jennings Pahus in 1940 in Northwood, Iowa.
Bertha grew up and attended Union Township Country School #5 in Clear Lake and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1939. She and Jennings farmed south of Clear Lake until 1946, when they moved south of Swaledale. In 1971, they retired and moved to Clear Lake.
Bertha was an officer of the Richland Lutheran Church Ladies Aid for several years. She liked to cook and was a wonderful seamstress. She also enjoyed completing the daily crossword puzzles and solving the Cryptoquote.
Bertha is survived by four children, Larry Pahus, of Clear Lake, Robert Pahus, of Gainesville, Tex., Janet (Paul) Brown, of Mason City, and Marilyn (Doug) Tyrrell, of Montezuma, Iowa; four grandchildren, Darrell Brown, Lynette Brown, Sharon Tyrrell Schneider, and Ellie Tyrrell Burke; six great-grandchildren, Derek and Craig Brown, Evan and Amelia Schneider, and Pierce and Harrison Burke; and three great-great grandchildren, Gavin, Harper and Dax Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Helen Mestad; and two brothers, Bernard and Robert Oettchen.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
