Lavina Hildur Peterson, 91 of Clear Lake, died Sunday, June 21, 2015, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2015, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, with Pastor Dennis Ganz officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2015, at the funeral home.

Family suggests memorial contributions to Humane Society of North Iowa or Hospice of North Iowa.

Lavina was born September 18, 1923, the daughter of Carl and Anna (Carlson) Peterson, in rural Lake Mills. She grew up and attended school in Thompson, IA, graduating from Thompson High School. Following high school, she worked on the farm with her father and uncle, Arthur Carlson. Years later Lavina and Arthur farmed near Forest City.

Lavina retired from Walker Deluxe in Lake Mills and eventually moved to Clear Lake. She worked at the Rax Restaurant in Mason City and Happy Chef in Clear Lake. She enjoyed visiting and eating out with friends, Linda Anderson and Raymond Lindloff. Every year she attended the Carlson family reunion on Memorial Day weekend in Webster City. In December, 2013, Lavina entered the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. She made many new friends, enjoyed getting to know the staff, and was grateful for the care she received.

Lavina is survived by nieces and nephews, Sharon Mathey of Virginia, Dale E. Anderson of Clear Lake, Susan Lucas of Clear Lake, Suzanne Haxton of Mason City, Henry Shaffer of California, Leslie Batton of Mason City, Loren Batton of Evansdale, IA, and Lance Batton of Mason City; many great and great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, LeRoy; two sisters, Helen Shaffer and Arlene Batton; an uncle Arthur Carlson; four nephews, Robert Anderson, Keith Anderson, Larry Batton, and Norman Shaffer; and a niece, Linda Lindloff.
