Sandee Sue Monahan, 60 of Clear Lake, died Saturday, October 17, 2015, at her home.

A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 22, 2015, at First Congregational Church, 205 W. 10th Ave. N., Clear Lake, with Pastor Nancy Monahan officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.

Sandee was born February 15, 1955, the daughter of Gary and Eunice (Eckhoff) Frerichs in Grundy Center. She married Troy Monahan on March 9, 1973, in Sioux Falls, SD.

Sandee grew up and lived throughout the United States, as well as Europe, graduating from Clear Lake High School. She worked at Sperry-Univac, Alexander Battery, Sun Source, and most recently, FRC Corporation. Her work ethic was outstanding, and she instilled that in her children.

Sandee enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking, animals, crafts, and in earlier years fishing and going on Harley rides with Troy. She and Troy were also hosts to many gatherings of friends and family. She constantly worried about everyone but herself and was a wonderful caregiver. She made Christmas a very special holiday for her family and cherished all the times spent in her backyard by the pool entertaining her grandchildren, while listening to the Beach Boys. There was never a dull moment at Nana and Pa’s house, and she made sure no one ever left hungry. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren. She always joked that if she could have had her grandchildren first, life would have been easier.

Sandee is survived by her father, Gary Frerichs of Clear Lake; husband, Troy Monahan of Clear Lake; four children, Tonya (Troy) Ristau of Clear Lake, Carrie (Chuck, deceased) Galkin of Mason City, Troy II (Amy) Monahan of Mason City, and Gregory Monahan of Clear Lake; eight grandchildren, Taryn and Tori Ristau, Bailee, Brandon and Jennifer Galkin, Jordon (Kayla), Troy David, and Riley Monahan; a great-granddaughter, Talia Monahan; four siblings, Barry (Bonnie) Frerichs of Packwood, WA, Candace (Jody) McGuckin of Dover, DE, Myrna (Al) Hallman of Swaledale, and Scott (Shawn) Frerichs of Clear Lake; a mother-in-law, Denise (LeRoy) McNamee of Greeley, CO; four siblings-in-law, Mark (Cozette Sullivan) Detra of Mason City, Jaye (Joe Allinder) Monahan of Greeley, CO, Todd (Kim) Monahan of Greeley, CO, and Tom (Jane) Monahan of DePere, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother; a son-in-law, Chuck Galkin; a father-in-law, Phil Monahan; and a sister-in-law, Jody Detra.
