Kenwood “Ken” Prunty, 75, of Clear Lake, Iowa lost his battle with cancer Monday June 15, 2015 at the Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.

Celebration of Ken’s Life will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Dan Jordan officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. The family will greet friends Friday from 5:00 -7:00 P.M. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa and one hour before the service on Saturday at the church. Family suggests memorials to the Evangelical Free Church, American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.

Ken was born August 25, 1939 in LeMars, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Evelyn (Potter) Prunty. He graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1957. He graduated with a B.A. degree in math from Westmar College and an M.A. degree in Industrial Arts from the University of Northern Iowa.

He taught math at Royal High School in 1962 and at Hawarden High School from 1962-1965. In the fall of 1966 he started teaching Industrial Arts in Clear Lake until his retirement in 1998. He worked at Andrews Prestressed Concrete as a part-time draftsman. He owned and operated Ken’s Small Engine for over 45 years in Hawarden and Clear Lake.

He married Dorothy Arends June 17, 1962 in LeMars, Iowa. They would have been celebrating their 53rd anniversary.

He was very active at the Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church, serving as a trustee and as a clerk on the administrative board. He enjoyed singing in the choir and helping with AWANA. He was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society during Daffodil Days.

Ken enjoyed woodworking, restoring his 55 Chevy, and playing his trumpet. He especially enjoyed making furniture and helping with projects for his family. He helped build his home on Main Street, which included his home business, Ken’s Small Engine Clinic. He enjoyed spending time visiting with his customers and diagnosing their engine problems. His family and friends knew him as “Mr. Fix It”.

Ken was very devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family and friends who meant the world to him. He was a committed Christian who loved the Lord. He was grateful that his children are passing on their Christian heritage to their families.

Ken is survived by his wife Dorothy Prunty, Clear Lake, Iowa; three daughters Lori (Dennis) Gallagher, Hornick, Iowa, Jill (Marty) Wilson, McCallsburg, Iowa and Kendra (Josh) Madison, Mounds View, Minnesota; eight grandchildren Johnathan, Michael (Maria), Christy Gallagher, Ethan and Emma Wilson and Levi, Shane and Riley Madison; sister Patricia Aylott, Bella Vista, Arkansas; sisters-in-law Merrie Prunty-Rutherford, Papillion, Nebraska and Darlene (Dick) Lunde, Los Alamitos, California and brother-in-law Vernon Arends, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Evelyn Prunty; brother Ronald Prunty; brother-in-law Tom Aylott and sister-in-law Donna Arends.
