John Fransen, 69, of 1316 North Jefferson, Mason City died at his home on Friday, March 9, 2012. A graveside service for John with full military honors conducted by the members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association will be held at 10:30AM, Friday, March 16, 2012 at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City with the Reverend Kenneth B. Gehling officiating.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 4 to 7:00pm at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, where a rosary will be recited at 6:00pm and a scriptural wake service will be held at 6:30pm.

John Fransen was born June 28, 1942 to Howard and Clara Grein Fransen in Mason City, Iowa. John attended McKinley Elementary and the Holy Family school system before enlisting in the Navy for four years as a hydraulic mechanic during the Cuban Crisis in Guantanamo Bay.

John was united in marriage to Jenny Sawyer in 1965 and to this union, two children were born, Becky and John Fransen Jr. After divorcing Jenny, John moved to Alturas, California where he drove truck. John moved back to Mason City in 1996 and worked for Cozy Van for the past three years.

John enjoyed spending his time with his family and grandchildren. His passion was singing karaoke and had a good time dancing. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings.

John's memory will be cherished by all his family and friends. We will miss his beautiful voice.

He will be missed by his children, Becky (Greg) Jacobs, Blue Earth, MN and John Fransen Jr., Fairmont, MN; grandchildren, Tasha and Logan, Kellen, Lindsey, and Kaylor Jacobs, all of Blue Earth, MN; sisters, Patty Staub, Mason City and Nancy (Terry) Bagwell, Alturas, CA along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and his friends at the Kozy Korner.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a great niece, Trisha Davis.
